Week 1:

Editing foundations & project setup

WEEK 1 · CLASSES 1–3 · 6 LIVE HOURS

Practice & deliverable: Create a short continuity sequence.

Week 2:

Timeline skills & clean cuts

WEEK 2 · CLASSES 4–6 · 6 LIVE HOURS

  • Class 4In/out points, insert/overwrite and timeline navigation
  • Class 5Trim, ripple, roll and practical shortcuts
  • Class 6Continuity, screen direction and pacing review

Practice & deliverable: Finish a clean 45–60 second sequence.

Week 3:

Story structure & B-roll

WEEK 3 · CLASSES 7–9 · 6 LIVE HOURS

  • Class 7Turn a brief into a shot/sequence plan
  • Class 8Select meaningful takes and organise a story arc
  • Class 9J/L cuts, B-roll and visual transitions

Practice & deliverable: Build a short story-driven montage.

Week 4:

Dialogue, music & sound basics

WEEK 4 · CLASSES 10–12 · 6 LIVE HOURS

  • Class 11Introductory Fairlight EQ and dialogue cleanup
  • Class 12Balance voice and licensed music; listening review

Practice & deliverable: Deliver a dialogue-led edit with balanced sound.

Week 5:

Interview & documentary editing

WEEK 5 · CLASSES 13–15 · 6 LIVE HOURS

  • Class 13Select interview soundbites and build a paper edit
  • Class 14Synchronisation basics and B-roll coverage
  • Class 15Trim for clarity and complete a practical review

Practice & deliverable: Create a 60–90 second interview piece.

Week 6:

Colour correction foundations

WEEK 6 · CLASSES 16–18 · 6 LIVE HOURS

  • Class 16Scopes, exposure and white-balance correction
  • Class 17Contrast, saturation and shot matching
  • Class 18Node basics and restrained look development

Practice & deliverable: Submit a shot-matched scene with before/after views.

Week 7:

Titles, captions & basic motion

WEEK 7 · CLASSES 19–21 · 6 LIVE HOURS

  • Class 19Readable titles, lower thirds and safe areas
  • Class 20Manual captions, proofreading and timing
  • Class 21Keyframes, easing and simple Fusion title introduction

Practice & deliverable: Create a captioned explainer with an animated title.

Week 8:

Social & promotional editing

WEEK 8 · CLASSES 22–24 · 6 LIVE HOURS

  • Class 22Hooks, concise storytelling and vertical framing
  • Class 23Music-driven pacing and appropriate transitions
  • Class 24Reframe versions for different aspect ratios

Practice & deliverable: Deliver a vertical reel and landscape adaptation.

Week 9:

Workflow, proxies & delivery

WEEK 9 · CLASSES 25–27 · 6 LIVE HOURS

  • Class 25Optimised media/proxies and relinking concepts
  • Class 26Codecs, containers, bitrate and render settings
  • Class 27Check exports for sync, spelling, levels and image quality

Practice & deliverable: Package a project with platform-ready exports.

Week 10:

Client briefs & portfolio development

WEEK 10 · CLASSES 28–30 · 6 LIVE HOURS

  • Class 28Define scope, references and delivery requirements
  • Class 29Handle feedback, revisions and version naming
  • Class 30Select strongest edits and assemble a showreel draft

Practice & deliverable: Prepare a portfolio review and capstone brief.

Week 11:

Capstone production studio

WEEK 11 · CLASSES 31–33 · 6 LIVE HOURS

  • Class 32Refine picture, audio, colour, titles and captions
  • Class 33Instructor critique and vertical-cutdown workshop

Practice & deliverable: Submit a full capstone rough cut.

Week 12:

Final polish, handoff & presentation

THE FINAL CAPSTONE

Brand Story Video & Social Cutdowns

Produce a 2–3 minute story or promotional video from supplied or licensed footage, with a clear narrative, clean dialogue, balanced music, consistent colour and titles. Create a 30–45 second vertical adaptation and a captioned version.

Build progressively, review the draft and use the final week to refine, test and present your work.

What you finish with

  • Caption file or captioned export with manual proofreading
  • A short showreel and portfolio notes covering 4–6 edits

A working project or portfolio you can present, with the decisions and process behind it.

Each 120-minute class balances concepts and demonstration (25 minutes), guided studio practice (55 minutes), a short break (10 minutes) and critique, revision or questions (30 minutes).

How long is the course?

Is this suitable for beginners?
